The Department of Electronic Systems has a vacancy for 2 Postdoctoral Researchers in the area of statistical machine learning and signal processing. The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. The successful candidate will be offered a 3-year position.

Qualification Details

We search for candidates with keen interests in these interdisciplinary tasks, and those with the best qualifications will be invited for an interview. The successful candidate is expected to be able to work independently, have a solid mathematical background and a PhD in statistical signal processing, statistical machine learning, applied mathematics, statistics, electrical engineering, or related fields. Good command in English language (spoken and written) is a prerequisite. An eligible candidate should have submitted the PhD thesis for assessment by the application deadline.

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD

  • You must have a professionally relevant background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or other relevant discipline

  • Strong mathematical background

  • Strong research experience documented with peer-reviewed scientific papers

  • Significant experience with programming (preferably Matlab and/or Python)

  • Excellent with verbal and written communication in English

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant

Preferred selection criteria

The successful candidates have preferably experience with one or more application domains:

  • Carbon Capture and Storage

  • Ground Motion Monitoring

Responsibilities/Job Description

One position is linked to the project SIGNIFY and one position is linked to the project DARIO. Both projects deal with methodologies related to Big data, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence as key enablers of the digital transformation. The main objectives of the projects include the development and the integration of signal processing and machine learning methodologies for anomaly detection.

The project SIGNIFY is funded by the Research Council of Norway and is in collaboration with SINTEF Energy. The project DARIO is funded by the European Space Agency and is in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Norway. Use cases for the project SIGNIFY are related to Carbon Capture and Storage, while use cases for the project DARIO are related to Ground Motion Monitoring via satellite data. The postdoctoral research fellows will have the opportunity to be affiliated with the [email protected] and with the Norwegian Open AI lab, and to collaborate with research scientists from international partner institutions.

Postdoc Position N.1 – Hybrid Analytics for Sensor Validation The activities related to this position include exploring and defining advanced solutions by integrating model-based and data-driven approaches to sensor validation within a Bayesian framework. Graph signal processing and transfer learning methodologies are likely to be considered in the research.

Postdoc Position N.2 – Machine Learning for Ground Motion Monitoring The activities related to this position include dataset preparation from satellite data and development of anomaly detection tools for multivariate time-series which can handle effectively both spatial and temporal aspects. Compressed sensing, data fusion and deep learning are likely to be considered in the research.

About the Department

Currently, IES has approximately 165 full-time employees spread across 45 professors, 70 PhD, 25 research/Post.Doc and 25 engineering/administration. IES has the principal responsibility for education and research in electronics at NTNU. IES research portfolio comprises the areas of statistical signal processing, wireless communications, marine acoustics/sub-sea communications, multimedia and speech technology, micro- and nano-technology, sensors, and medical technology.

The Department of Electronic Systems is one of seven departments in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering .
