Description

A Research position is available in the Tsai laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine to determine the structure, mechanism, and function of ATP-dependent protein quality control machines and stress-response proteins

Research position is available in the Tsai laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (ranked No. 22 for Research by US News) to determine the structure, mechanism, and function of ATP-dependent protein quality control machines and stress-response proteins. Applicants with a Ph.D. (for Postdocs) or B.Sc. (for Research Assistants/Technicians) in biochemistry, cell/molecular biology, or enzymology are encouraged to apply. No prior experience in structural analysis methods is required. Experience with methods used to express and purify recombinant proteins is essential. Prior experience in enzymology, iPSC/cell culture, and/or working with a model organism such as bacteria, yeast, or worms is desired. The successful applicant will use a multi-pronged approach to investigate protein quality control mechanisms, stress responses, and host-microbe interactions. Salary is competitive (for Postdocs it is pegged to the current NIH scale) and is in addition to a generous fringe benefit package. To apply, please send a cover letter with research interests and experiences, your current CV, and contact information for three referees to Dr. Francis Tsai ([email protected]).

  • Experience with protein expression and IEX, HIC, SEC chromatography is essential.
  • Prior experience in enzymology is an advantage (for biochemists).
  • Prior experience with iPSC and/or 3D culture systems is an advantage (for cell biologists)
  • Prior experience with model organisms is an advantage (for molecular biologists).
  • Applicants must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.

The Tsai laboratory is located in the world’s largest medical center in Houston, Texas (4th largest city in the US). Social distancing and other safety precautions are maintained at all times, and provide a safe and secure environment for biomedical research. Motivated scientists with excellent communication skills are encouraged to apply. Baylor College of Medicine is an equal opportunity employer.
