Salary level

EGR. 13 TV-L

Start dateas

soon as possible, the initial fixed term is three years (this is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Responsibilities

Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

Specific Duties

The applicant will be part of the group “Small-Scale Atmospheric Modeling”. Our research combines theory and simulations to study microscale processes and their interaction with larger-scale dynamics, with a particular emphasis on turbulence and how it interacts with cloud microphysics, radiative transfer, and surface phenomena. Examples of this research can be found in https://turbulencia.github.io.

Specific topics of interest for this position include, but are not restricted to, microphysics modeling (Lagrangian and Eulerian approaches), surface modeling (immersed boundary methods), machine learning approaches to analysis and parametrizations, code development for high-performance computing (hybrid approaches including GPU acceleration). Although mainly a research position, it also includes a teaching obligation of 4 hours per week.

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Applicants should have a strong background in geophysical flows (preferably microscale meteorology), or fluid mechanics and turbulence (geophysical or engineering). Previous work on numerical simulations is of advantage. Computer programming skills will be regarded favorably since the applicant will work with large-scale computing systems (Unix or GNU/Linux OS, parallel computing).
