Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a 36-month Postdoctoral research position as a part of a Horizon 2020 project SCORE.SCORE outlines a comprehensive strategy, developed via a network of 10 coastal city living labs (CCLL), to rapidly, equitably and sustainably enhance coastal city climate resilience though an Ecosystem-Based Approach (EBA) supported by sophisticated digital technologies. SCORE will reduce the impacts of sea level rise and extreme events due to climate change on European coastal cities by co-design, and co-development with citizens and stakeholders, and by deploying, testing, and demonstrating innovative EBAs, smart technologies and hybrid Nature Based Solutions. SCORE will provide scientific evidence for EBA application and best practice for design, replication and scalability in this context. Furthermore, SCORE promotes technology and innovation to increase climate resilience and in the process, creates European leadership in coastal city climate change adaptation in line with the Paris Agreement. The aim is to establish a network of cities learning from one another. Citizens and stakeholders that participate in the CCLLs will have access to technology to address climate change issues relevant to their region through participatory engagement. Based on a prototype coastal city early warning system for extreme events, the technology will be developed, implemented and validated through the integration of smart sensing technologies and citizen science. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team within the Spatial Dynamics Lab in UCD, which is currently running several projects funded by the European Commission, Science Foundation Ireland, EPA, etc. This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
