We seek a postdoctoral scientist to work with Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian on a Wellcome Trust-funded programme to investigate the epigenetic role of nucleic acid base modifications. This is an interdisciplinary project that encompasses chemical biology and molecular biology and genomics. See https://www.balasubramanian.co.uk for further information.
We look to appoint a molecular biologist or biochemist to carry out research on how chemically modified bases affect the structure and function of DNA and the genome. The research will include a consideration of the chemistry and enzymology of modified bases, protein-DNA interactions, chromatin structure and transcription. We aim to manipulate the epigenetic states of systems as part of our studies using genome-targeting and genetic approaches. This will enable us to gain a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanism by which base modifications regulate gene expression in normal and disease states using cellular models from human, and mouse and also parasite models.
We seek a candidate with a capacity for innovation and creativity. We value strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Previous applicants need not apply.
