Training Within Industry (TWI) was developed in 1940 as part of the U.S. government’s initiative to support the war effort during World War II. Millions of workers were trained using TWI methods, and they remain a valuable tool. Wouldn’t you like to know more about how they can be used today?
On October 6, 2020, the Iowa Lean Consortium hosted a TWI Overview Webinar (Members can watch it here.) This new series of one-hour webinars is offering you the chance to take a deeper dive into each of the modules that make up the TWI methodology and learn more about leading your organizations.
TWI consists of standardized learning modules addressing the essential skills and knowledge needed by leaders at all levels – knowledge of work, knowledge of responsibilities, skill in instructing, sill in improving methods, and skill in leading. TWI follows a proven process that is simple and straight forward, ensuring that skills and methods are learned, applied, and retained.
Nick Turner, owner and certified instructor at TWI Leadership LLC, will discuss a new aspect of TWI each week. Nick spent 10 years as an infantryman in the U.S. Army, testing his leadership skills at assignments in Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan. For the last seven years, he has been using his unique set of skills to help individuals at manufacturing plants across the United States become better supervisors. He has successfully coached Job Instruction, Job Relations, Job Methods, and other TWI tools to hundreds of clients in many types of manufacturing environments.
The fourth webinar in this series will focus on Job Safety.
