PICTURE A SCIENTIST is a ground breaking documentary film that chronicles the rise of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists and provides new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all. Featuring geologist Jane Willenbring, chemist Raychelle Burks, and biologist Nancy Hopkins and key social scientists working to understand and reduce gender bias in the sciences, Picture a Scientist brings diversity issues into sharp focus.
The film provides an excellent opportunity to prompt conversations around a number of themes related to EDI. Our discussion, which is open to all faculty, postdocs and graduate students in the Faculty of Science, is centred on how to make graduate students and postdoctoral fellows less vulnerable to harassment and inequity. The discussion format will consist of facilitated conversations in small-groups; please indicate whether you are a grad student/pdf or a faculty member when you register.
This event is co-hosted by the Faculty of Science Associate Dean EDI and the SFU Physics IDEA Team with support from the Sexual Violence Support and Prevention Office.
**There will be two links sent out for this event. The first is to watch the documentary and the second is a Zoom link for the discussion**
