About this event

Targeting Therapeutics for Brain Disorders 2021 is a one-day international conference organised by early career faculty at the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork, Ireland.

This virtual event brings together world-leading experts in the areas of Clinical Practice, Translational Neuropharmacology and Drug Delivery for Brain Disorders.

Plenary 1: Mr. Gary Boyle (Advocate; Living with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease)

Plenary 2: Prof. Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes (Department of Pharmacy, Uppsala Universitet, Sweden)

Plenary 3: Prof. Eric Nestler (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA)

This conference aims to tackle the challenges in treating neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions, for which there is an unmet medical need. We hope that by bringing together a range of experts in each of these areas, that we can find commonality in our research interests, develop cross-disciplinary collaborations and ultimately enhance the quality of life of patients.

This bench to bedside approach is a key element of our event and our program is designed to encompass presentations from basic fundamental research to novel innovative drug delivery strategies to hearing first-hand the experience of living everyday life with a neurodegenerative disorder. We hope delegates will find the day not only informative from a scientific perspective but also motivational to pursue innovative research and most importantly, inspirational to continue to work toward patient-focused research.

This event offers a platform for early career researchers to present their work and form connections with others working across different disciplines, but all with the common goal to develop more targeted and efficacious treatments for disorders of the central nervous system.

The goals of Targeting Therapeutics for Brain Disorders 2021 are to;

  • highlight the current cutting edge research in this field
  • promote multi-, trans- and inter-disciplinary research
  • develop connections with other national institutions, industry and other relevant partners
  • foster international collaborations to be at the forefront of truly translational research
