To celebrate a remarkable year since the foundation of Sportula Europe, LCoC is hosting a panel which will centre around their work over the past year, anti-racism, and allyship in academia. Join us for some fascinating insight into how the organisation works, their ethos, and their vision for the future of Classics.
The first half of the event will be a discussion between LCoC committee members and the Sportula Europe team. For the second half, we will open up questions to the audience.
London Classicists of Colour (LCoC) is a student-led, London-based society founded by six UCL Classicists. We have three main goals: 1) We are committed to decolonisation of the discipline of Classics 2) We are committed to education of the public on the relationship between Classics and race 3) We are committed to the creation of a safe space for members, in particular students of colour, to discuss decolonisation, Classics, and race-related issues.
Sportula Europe is a solidarity network and microgrant fund which aims to support students and early-career or independent scholars in ancient world studies who are facing financial difficulty. It is run by a small group of five postgraduates and ECRs, all of whom are committed to making Classics and ancient world studies into more inclusive and equitable disciplines - a mission shaped particularly by their experiences as people of colour. Their advocacy to change and shape the field is closely connected to their mutual aid and microgrant work. You can find out more at http://sportulaeurope.wordpress.com or on twitter @SportulaEurope
