Description

Research Fellow-Lohr Lab

The Lohr Lab seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow, who is interested in computational biology and data science to work on the analysis of new datasets generated in the context of our single cell sequencing efforts to help advance approaches to precision cancer medicine, drug resistance, and immunotherapy.

Interested candidates will focus on new approaches for the analysis of transcriptome and DNA sequencing data from single tumor cells, circulating tumor cells, and matching tumors and circulating DNA to enable new discoveries in patients under multiple contexts. We seek someone with experience in data analysis who is excited about generating new biological insights by applying existing methods to new datasets, and by developing novel approaches for analyzing and integrating these data.

The candidate is expected to contribute towards design and implementation of algorithms to analyze the data and integrate it with outcome of clinical trials. The hired candidate will also be involved in development of in-house tools needed for interactive visualization and analyses. The candidate will also help in maintenance, support, and documentation of computational tools, pipeline, code repository, and generated datasets. As the computational infrastructure evolves, this position is likely to present diverse and flexible opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze next generation sequencing data including RNA sequencing of bulk and single cells, cfDNA, whole genome and whole exome sequencing, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, etc.
  • Applying existing statistical and computational methods on novel datasets.
  • Developing and maintaining computational tools.
  • Explore existing literature/datasets (TCGA/Pan-Cancer atlas etc) to support and extend conclusions.
  • Prepare research results for publication and for presentations at scientific meetings.

Qualifications:

  • PhD., MD or equivalent in bioinformatics, genetics, statistics, mathematical, or computer science or a related discipline with significant experience in computer programming and computational biological applications.
  • Coding experience in python and/or R along with familiarity in unix/linux environment is required. Deep knowledge on application and development of statistical methods for analyses of high-throughput dataset is a plus.
  • Practical experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis.
  • Experience with biological data, especially cancer genetics.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform both self-directed and guided research.
  • Outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and efficiently multitask is a must.
  • Two-year commitment is required.
