Universities and other higher education institutions have a myriad of jobs that are not research faculty positions! In this panel, we will explore some of those avenues with three accomplished professionals at different career stages and with a variety of job descriptions.

Meet the panelists:

Jenny Schneider, PhD - She is currently a Research Data Analyst at Thomas Jefferson University where she analyzes data of postdoc and student outcomes. She had previously done a postdoc at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and was part of iNet NYC. She received her PhD from Israel Institute of Technology. As an international, she has had to navigate the visa minefield for non-research jobs.

John Vasquez, PhD - He has just started a new position as Associate Dean for Access & Equity at Central Washington University where he will handle program planning, budget development and management, hiring and personnel actions, faculty/staff development, planning for facilities, and responsiveness to students to support their success. He has two decades of experience in the higher education setting, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion practices. He is also involved with the National Postdoctoral Association.

Sydney Gary, PhD - She is the Director of Research Operations at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), where she oversees the day-to-day operations of CSHL’s research activities, manages policies and processes related to faculty recruitment and advancement, and contributes to institutional educational and training efforts. She obtained her PhD in Pharmacology/Toxicology from Virginia Commonwealth University and later did a postdoc at Yale University School of Medicine. She also has experience has a science writer and editor and organizing think-tank style meetings for CSHL's Banbury Conference Center.
